Scope and content

Ribblesdale Place, Preston - MFL wants to know whether 'the 'charts'' mentioned in WW's History of the Inductive Sciences [1837] have ever been published: 'for the reading of the book leads to an almost irresistible longing for the tabular view you mention'. Further to John Herschel's plea that anybody who can assist, however humbly, in adding to the general stock of knowledge should do so. JH points particularly to meteorology: MFL thus encloses some observations he has received for 1847 taken from a barometer and a thermometer, as well as rain levels and wind positions. MFL asks WW for advice regarding the relevance of his various natural history and geological interests.
